I read the original Frank Herbert book as a kid, and it changed my life because it was the first book I could get into and read all the way through. I just finished Sandworms of Dune, and although the style of writing is completely different, I still love the setting and the characters. I just hope it isn’t the last…
Frank Herbert’s Dune was one of the great science fiction novels I read when I was younger… a great read. Reading the later books written by Kevin J. Anderson is also an enjoyable experience!
Many of Kevin’s other books include settings based around Livermore and the Bay Area… they are fun to read because you can imagine the scenes and settings easily–which moves the stories along so much better!
I’ve put a little tribute up for Kevin and his books on a Squidoo site: http://www.squidoo.com/Kevin_J_Anderson
I’ll also modify the site to include the Livermore Library’s website in the links.

I would like to have a chance to win ANYTHING that is DUNE related.Being a long time fan,I devour every word of every book!I eagerly await PAUL OF DUNE.The 8 questions above are interesting and it would be cool to get the answers from the horses mouth!Brian and Kevin are two of the best writers SF has, hands down.Anyway, this is my 2 cents worth,I hope I did’nt waste anyones time.

I originally read Dune for a Science Fiction Literature class in High School. Following reading the book, we had a mock trial in which we tried Paul for violating Imperial Law by using atomics. Students played various characters from the book, others were lawyers and others were jury members. The trial allowed us to delve into the book and pick out details that enable greater understanding and appreciation for the brilliance of the novel. Ever since, I have read every single novel published on the Dune universe, transitioning seamlessly from Frank Herbert on to Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson. I have read the original Dune books at least 5 times each and find myself needing to reread the set again every few years to keep it fresh in my mind. The completion of the series by Brian and Kevin have allowed for renewed enjoyment of the series and for answers to be given to cliff hanging questions from Chapterhouse. Without a doubt, Dune is one of my favorite books while the Dune books are my favorite series of books.
